Pensacola State College Alumni Association held their Annual Quail Hunt and Pheasant Shoot on November 6th and 7th. Thanks to great weather and the wonderful hosts at Dennis Lake Wing Club, participants spent two days enjoying the outdoors and each other’s company all while raising money.
Gerry Goldstein, a faithful supporter of the college, helped Dr. Ed Meadows and the Alumni Association bring the pieces together that made the event a success. As always, the fall event took place in Bay Minette, Alabama at the Dennis Lake Wing Club owned and operated by Mr. Hamilton Smith, who is also an active contributor at PSC.
Friday was the Quail Hunt and nine guests began their day with lunch before heading to the fields with the help of Dennis Lake guides and their trusted bird dogs. After a few hours in the field, the hunters then made their way to an evening cabin where they had the chance to visit over dinner and continue the evening outdoors by a fire.
Saturday, the overnight guests joined a fresh group at the location’s clubhouse which brought the total number of participants close to thirty for the pheasant shoot portion of the event. Eager to start the day, men and women shooters gathered outside where they were officially welcomed and then given a safety briefing.
With no rain in the forecast and the sun shining bright, it was another cloudless day for both the guests and the hard-working retrievers. Many participants were familiar faces who have supported the event in years past, and some were newcomers, but all had a wonderful time and together they helped the Alumni Association raise more than $23,000. Among a few husband-wife teams and individuals were groups such as those from Synovus and Gulf Power. Each participant impacted the overall fundraising total, and we appreciate their donations.
The Alumni Association would like to thank the following individuals for contributing to the event in some way: Gerry Goldstein; J.P. Whibbs; Vaughn Nichols; and Mike Thomas. Also, thank you to Dr. Meadows for his support of this event, and Hamilton Smith and his staff at Dennis Lake for graciously hosting PSC events so that we can bring awareness and support to our students and the programs we offer at the college.
Without their help, the event would not have been such a success. For information about this event and other similar events with the PSC Alumni Association contact Hailey Lotz by phone at (850) 484-1714 or email at hlotz@pensacolastate.edu.
