MONROE COUNTY, FL –Former Gulf Coast High School baseball player Kevin Ferreira was found dead in the Florida Keys on Sunday.
His body was found offshore of Big Pine Key after he was last seen launching his boat Friday morning and never returned. Monroe County detectives say there are no signs of foul play. The 2003 graduate of Gulf Coast High School played baseball all four years before heading to Pensacola Junior College to play.
Ferreira then made his way to play ball division one ball and graduate from Jacksonville University.
“When he said he was going to do something he was going to do it,” says Ferreira’s former high school baseball coach, Jon Ayres. “I was very proud of the fact that he told he was going to graduate college and he did. I was very proud of that kid. He’s going to be missed.”
In a statement released to us Jackson University baseball coach Tim Montez said: “Kevin played the game with great energy, intensity, and passion, and he lived his life that way. He had a big heart and was a true team player.”
